Sporting Some Hardware – The small but mighty Dominican Gymnastics Team proudly displays their Division I runner-up medals after competing in the state meet on Apr. 29 in Baton Rouge.
On Saturday, Apr. 29, three DHS gymnasts competed in the All State Sugar Bowl LHSAA Girls State Gymnastics Meet at Baton Rouge Magnet High School. After fierce competition, the DHS gymnastics team took the Division I state runner up title.
Junior Rebecca D’Antonio place 4th overall on both the uneven parallel bars and the balance beam. Senior Olivia LeBlanc participated on the vault, floor exercise and balance beam. Additionally, junior Cece Chaney participated on vault and floor exercises.
“It’s an awesome feeling getting to do something you love for the school you love,” said D’Antonio. “Standing on the podium with my Dominican teammates is a moment I will never forget.”
Competing for her first and last time, LeBlanc called the victory “bittersweet.”
“I don’t think we were expecting to win because our team is so small,” LeBlanc said, “but it felt great to earn those medals.”
“Winning runner-up was amazing,” said Chaney. “We all had a great time competing, so earning the title was icing on the cake. Hopefully, next year we can take home first,” said.
A Toast of Praise to you, DHS Gymnastics Team, for a title well-earned and a job well done!
